Rats!!!

Prior to going gluten free Chinese food was a staple in my house. Not just Chinese and the movies on Christmas Day but a true weekly staple. It was my first choice for carry out, dining out and cooking-often 2-3 times a week. My favorite: chow fun. This year I plan on making Chow Fun with Oyster Sauce by Lee Kum Kee that I picked up awhile ago at Whole Foods. The other ingredient I frequently used in the pre-gf days was Hoisin sauce. Edward and Sons Trading Company does carry a Japanese gluten free version. Both of these products are certified by the manufacturers to be Gluten free. There are symbolic foods that are traditional for Chinese New Year like Spring rolls for Wealth , Lettuce Wraps with "lucky" food and whatever you do don't cut your noodles as you will shorten your life. For more on the traditions and customs check out this website: The Family Culture and of course Wikipedia is chock full of information for each of the 15 days of celebration. As is customary I am off to clean my house and hopefully will sweep away all the bad luck and make room for good luck in “The Year of the Rat”.
